GitHub Enterprise

If you’re taking a class where your instructor provides access to GitHub for use with Visual Studio Code, you will need to sign in with your University of Denver GitHub Enterprise account.

The University of Denver is moving away from using personal GitHub accounts for access to university organizations and repositories. As a result, the process for accessing DU GitHub resources is changing to use university-managed GitHub Enterprise accounts.

If you already have a personal GitHub account, make sure it is not associated with your @du.edu email address. GitHub Enterprise Managed User accounts are provisioned through DU’s identity system, and using the same @du.edu email on a personal account can cause account provisioning or sign-in conflicts. If your personal GitHub account currently uses your @du.edu email address, update the email address on that account before activating your DU GitHub Enterprise account.  Steps to update your email in GitHub.

Your GitHub Enterprise account will be used to access University of Denver organizations and repositories. Access to these repositories is managed through DU’s Single Sign-On (SSO) system.

Because the DU GitHub Enterprise account is managed by the university, it is intended for coursework and university-related development activities. If you would like to keep projects or repositories after graduating, you should transfer or copy them to a personal GitHub account before your university access is removed.
