A:There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Consider the courses and specialties you’ll focus on. Some may have OS-specific requirements, but these can often be handled with virtual machines, Docker, etc. If unsure, ask your professors for guidance.
Q: Do I need a touch-screen computer?
A: No, a touch screen is not required.
Q: Is an Ethernet port required?
A: No, the local WiFi connection will suffice.
Q: Is it acceptable if I buy a Toshiba/Sony/Apple/Lenovo laptop?
A: We consider our students to be advanced computer users. Choose a brand you’re comfortable with and that allows you to reconfigure, install, and enjoy your CS classes.
Q: Can I use a tablet instead of a laptop?
A: Tablets are not well suited for the computing power needed for CS projects, even though they are lightweight and convenient.
